Through the increase in sales from our first two books, we have found that RV owners, RV technicians, and many from the HVAC & Appliance repair industries  are hungry for the information we offer them, especially when it comes to RV absorption refrigerators. Many RVer’s from across the nation are contacting us and our RV Refrigeration Network (RVRN) Association member’s about the recall on their Dometic and Norcold refrigerators. Many of them report they received no notice that their refrigerator was a fire hazard and are very unhappy about the situation. Even worse, many have called our office after their refrigerator caught fire and again, these people had no knowledge there was even a recall. This has given them a very bad impression of these two RV refrigerator manufacturers which has led them to ask many questions.

In an attempt to network these leaders with the RV owners, we have sent them letters and a questionnaire.  The letters, the answers to the questionnaire, and a list of who they were sent to will be included in the book so that our readers will see that the RV refrigerator manufacturers really do care about them.  Here are samples of the questionnaires sent in May 2011.

We are very sad to report that neither Dometic nor Norcold have responded to your questions. What does this tell you?

6/1/11 My husband and I lost our 5th wheel two weeks ago to a fire. It is confirmed by an electrical forensics expert that the refrigerator was the cause. We had problems with it on Thursday (smelled ammonia) and disconnected it, turned off power etc. Unfortunately, the gases had built up and the 12 volt igniter triggered an explosion. We were never aware of a recall. We had to crawl at 1 a.m. in the morning out of the bed toward the door. Our beautiful border collies were inside and woke us and pulled and tugged to get us up as we had been breathing smoke for some time. In a matter of minutes we were nearly trapped inside. Thankfully, we all made it through the door as the bedroom area became engulfed and the whole outside and roof were engulfed in flames. We lost everything we owned but fortunately, not our lives. Please make sure to keep reminding people to check their units and serial numbers. We don't want anyone to ever have to go through what we went through.
Sincerely, J. & S. Boner

6/17/11  Dear Onna,

I want to thank you for posting this for the benefit of all.  We just still are in disbelief of what happened and quite frankly, in awe of the fact that a company can continue to get by with this travesty.  We don't want anyone to suffer a loss, especially of life, in such a disaster.  It's a horrifying experience, which we feel could have been prevented. We appreciate what you are doing and we so hope people will have a chance to be informed.  We have started to put the pieces back together......  Mental anguish is a kick in the pants, we still have nightmares.  But, for the grace of God, we are here, in one piece and our Hero dogs are doing just fine too!
Thank you again for listening and caring about our story, mostly for caring about countless others out there who don't know.  You too are a hero:)) for trying to save lives.

God Bless,
With Gratitude,
J. and S. Boner

Our many thanks to J & S Boner for sharing their story. We praise God they were not fatally harmed by this tragedy. God bless you! The Ford RV Team!

If your refrigerator does not fall under the recall today, we recommend that you check back periodically in case these manufacturers add to it as they have done for the past 3 years.
