After being in the domestic, commercial and industrial refrigeration industry for 15 years, Roger D. Ford began investigating the possibilities of opening a business that specialized in the repair of RV refrigerators back in 1980. In 1984, Roger and his wife Onna Lee opened the doors to “Ford & Ford RV Refrigeration Service, Inc.” In Western Kentucky. Now they not only do repairs for people throughout the United Sates and Canada, they have redesigned the tools needed to do the repairs, as well as revised the techniques. They now sell the tools and give a hands-on-training at no extra charge to anyone wishing to enter this specialized field.
People have been led to believe that as far as repairs go on these refrigerators, “it can’t be done”. For the majority of their 10 years in business, the Ford’s have worked towards the publication of a manual pertaining to the repair of RV refrigerators in order to change this. That manual is now available to the public. The name of the manual is the “Miracle”. The name was derived from those who obtained the hands-on training. When they entered the charging area they said, “So this is where the “miracles” are performed.
The manual, produced in a step-by-step format, is easy to read and understand. It covers areas such as the Absorption Cooling Unit, Absorption System Operation, Safety and Emergency Procedures, Removing Refrigerator from Vehicle, Cooling Unit Disassembly, Charging the Cooling Unit, Helpful Hints and much, much more. The 82-page manual also includes some illustrations.
The manual has already been purchased by vocational schools, technical institutes, colleges, RV dealers, heating and A/C repair services, those wishing to have their own businesses, as well as individuals that just want to know the truth. The Ford’s report that they have received very positive feedback on the manual from those who have purchased it, and look for it to continue to do very well.
Roger says, “We have searched at great lengths to find a manual such as the “Miracle” and so have a lot of other people that we have talked with. To our knowledge, this is the first manual of its kind to ever be available to the public.”
Onna Lee says, “Some of the people that ordered the manual said they were referred to us by manufacturers and distributors. They have also referred us to those needing repairs.”
Absorption Refrigeration has been around for 170 years. It’s hard to believe that we are in the 90’s and many people are still not aware that these refrigerators can be repaired. The Ford’s have seen that most people prefer repairs over replacements. Repair is a fraction of the cost in comparison to a new one, and the Ford’s give a guaranteed one-year warranty on any cooling unit they rebuild. They also offer up to five years extended warranties at the customer’s option.
Many people are looking for a field that has a future as well as adding to their already established business or even want to start a new business. This is a field that does not require a college education or a background in refrigeration, nor does it require a fortune to get started. It is, however, a field that is in great demand and has a great deal of potential now as well as in the future.
