Tornado - November 15, 2005

All that was left of our shop was a concrete slab. Before the tornado, you could not see through the trees. That's where our home landed.

Where our home sat before the tornado.

Our home traveled 200 ft, 15 ft in the air, taking out trees and finally hit two trees large enough to stop it. It exploded into millions of pieces, and was upside down.

Our jeep was beside the shop before the tornado and was in front of the shop after. Obviously, it was totaled.

This was our barn.

November 15, 2005 seemed like just another day. However, around 2:20 p.m. we had about 30 seconds notice that an F3 tornado was coming up the backside of our property.

I was in the office and I heard Roger yelling something. When I opened the door to the service department, I could see the fear on his face and heard the panic in his voice. He yelled again, "get into the bathroom". He grabbed our little poodle, we looked out the door and saw what you see in the picture on the left, coming up behind our home. We ran to the bathroom and watched out the service door. All we could see was rows of dirt and debris moving constantly to the right from the ground to the top of the door.

We embraced each other in a bear hug with the dog between us and headed for our knees. We never made it. We were immediately air born.

The roar of the tornado was so loud that we did not hear anything going on around us. All we knew was we were violently being tossed around. There was nothing we could do, we were at the mercy of the tornado.

We were thrown through two walls and by the grace of God, landed 60 feet out in the parking lot. After being pulverized by flying debris, everything became totally calm.

When we were able to move, we saw that our home, business, vehicles, barn, pole barn, and all of our belongings were gone. We were amazed that we were alive. Our poodle was also fine, though a bit traumatized.  The only thing left standing on the property was my parents home, again, only by the grace of God. The outside of their single wide mobile home was severely damaged and everything around the home was destroyed, but they were fine.

Roger and I were taken to the hospital by a neighbor and on the way, we saw that it looked like a bomb had destroyed our neighborhood. Fortunately, there were no fatalities on our road.

I had cracked ribs and my left side was bruised and cut up. Roger had a gash in the bridge of his nose and his right knee was cut up pretty bad. He also was bruised and cut up on his right side.

Once we were able to function again, we began rebuilding. We moved back home in March and reopened the business on May 1, 2006.

There is no doubt that God saved the five of us and our neighbors. Many have said it was a miracle that we survived.

Our many thanks to all of the volunteers that helped in the clean up and rebuilding. May God bless you all!
